Official opening of the drinking fountain with the Deputy Mayor, donors, local Councillors and residents on 16 September 2021
Restoration of listed Victorian Drinking Fountain
The restoration of this Victorian Drinking Fountain has been an aim of Friends of Richmond Green for many, many years and we finally achieved our goal in March 2020 - only for COVID to stop its use.
This project was undertaken in conjunction with the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and was made possible by generous donations from:
Friends of Richmond Green
Richmond Council Civic Pride Fund
Heritage of London Trust
The family of Councillor John Ormiston
The Drinking Fountain Association
Baroness van Dedem.
Historic records show that it was last restored as a drinking fountain in 1977 and opened by the then Mayor of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames - Councillor Sidney Grose.
44 years on from the last restoration, Her Worship the Deputy Mayor of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames - Councillor Suzette Nicholson and her Consort –opened the restored drinking fountain on 16th September 2021.
