Project: Richmond Palace Gateway
As partners with the Richmond Environmental Information Centre and Richmond Council, FoRG was instrumental in procuring improvements to the former Gateway to Richmond Palace (Grade 1) between The Green and the Old Deer Park car park. The gates and supporting piers have been refurbished and York stone laid underneath. The path has been re-surfaced and edged with granite setts. Gaps in the laurel bushes bordering the path have been in-filled with flowering and sweet-smelling shrubs. Thanks to a combination of Council and charity funding, including donations from FoRG and local residents, this thoroughfare is now a welcoming entrance point to the town – a key aim of the original ‘Gateways to Richmond’ concept.
